String Therapy Draws To A Close With Unity..... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's finally arrived - our last session of String Therapy.  I thought a good topic for today might be unity - how we can all get along even if we don't think or act exactly the same way.  Seems like we've lost a lot of that in the world today, but it doesn't mean we can't strive to get it back.  Wouldn't everyone be a lot happier if we were united?

I guess you're wondering how that can pertain to a quilt design?  Well, in today's quilt I've united warm colors ...

Time For A Little String Therapy! Where's Your Happy Place? from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Welcome to another session of String Therapy!  Today we're going to explore that most wonderful of things, your "happy place".

For me, that is most often the beach.  I would rather be at the beach than almost anywhere, and it is our favorite choice for vacation.  Something about the sound of the waves, the warm sun, the laidback-ness of it all - if you ask my husband what time it is when we are at the beach, his response is always "I don't know, and I don't care!"

But for my grandmother, it was her yard ...

Our String Therapy Prompt This Week? Find Joy! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Wow, what a week it has been.  Starting Sunday we had ice, freezing rain, sleet, and more ice.  Then snow.  Then more snow - lots more snow! And no sunshine.  Even with all the extra sewing time, it was enough to make one feel blue.  And then Friday, the clouds cleared, the sun came out, and everything started to melt.  Driving around, it was a pleasure to see the ice-covered trees sparkling like diamonds in the sun.  It was a truly joyful sight!

There are so many things that bring us joy, and sometimes the answer to a blue ...

This Week's String Therapy? Hugs & Kisses Make It All Better... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's time for this week's therapy session, and I'm definitely feeling the need for a little love this week.  So it's fitting that this Sunday is also Valentine's Day!  What better day to do a little string therapy based on hugs and kisses?

A few months ago, I saw a couple of quilts on Instagram that caught my eye, and I added them to my folder of possibles for String Therapy.  Both were similar in style, with one looking a little more contemporary as far as coloring.

When I got ready to make ...

P. Q. 12.3 - Getting Beachy from Sew Sunshine

I....love....this....scrappy quilt! As soon as project quilting 12.2 was over I set out to start to tackle some scraps. Bags and bags and bags of scraps. You know, you finish a project and some scraps go in a bag, or you go out to a sew day (well in the old days) and you take limited stuff with you and then you come home so tired you don't put away and you end up with...bags!
I probably emptied and stripped 12 or 13 smallish bags. Some of course had to stay in bags as ...

This Week's String Therapy? How To Be "Mindless" from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, it looks like it's time for another therapy session - if your week has been anything like mine, it's long overdue!  Nothing bad here, just super busy.  And as part of our String Therapy today, I've got a lovely, mindless quilt that will eat up your strings with little concentration on your part - just the ticket!!

Just look at all that mindless scrappy sewing goodness!  And you can make one all for yourself - just go grab that box/tub/pile/mountain of strings and go for it!

Some of you may recognize this quilt as ...

Won't You Join Me For A Little String Therapy? from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Welcome to this year's tutorial series, String Therapy!  I figure after the year we've had, a little therapy is in order - and what better way than with fabric?  If you're anything like me, you've got tons of string-y scraps - narrow pieces cut off from the edge of quilts, little bits left over after cutting pieces for quilt blocks - and if you're anything like me, you just can't bear to throw away fabric!  (Come on, I know I'm not alone in this!)  So let's take all those pieces, see if we ...

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? Things Are Coming Together! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Friday is here and you know what that means - it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on!!  Monday I made a promise to focus on my to-do list, and that has done wonders for my productivity, so I've got some things to whoop about - I hope you do too!  Let's get started!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

Here's today's finish - repairing this little guy for my grandson!  If you look carefully you can see on the upper left side of the beige piece, there's about a two inch place that I had to resew.  He ...

Make-A-List Monday - Where Did The Week Go? from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Monday? How did that happen?  Holiday weekends always mess with my timing, it seems - but that's really no excuse for my results this week.  I need to get back on track with following my list!

Here's how last week's list went...

1.  Keeping working on the fifth String Therapy prototype.

I'm happy to say that not only is the fifth prototype finished...

...but I also finished the sixth and final one!

This kind of grabbed all my attention this week, which will explain how I did on the rest of the list.....

2.  Write ...

Can I Get a Whoop Whoop? Comfort Sewing For The Win! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Friday has rolled around once again, and it's been another wild and turbulent week, hasn't it?  I don't know about you, but I've been indulging in "comfort sewing" as a way to cope with everything that's going on.  I hope, if you have, you will join in today's whoop whoop session so we can all boost each other up a little bit. That's important in times like these!  So let's get started...

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

As I told you, I've been indulging in comfort sewing. That's been a good thing, because ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem... But I Am DEFINITELY Working On It! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, strange times call for drastic actions - and I have been plowing through scraps like crazy!  Since last Wednesday, I completed the blue string top, which I named "Georgia on My Mind"...

...went on to make this top, utilizing some old string blocks that had been gathering dust for way too long....

...and today I finished all the pieces for this string top!  It is totally appalling to me that it only took the contents of one small tub of strings to make this quilt.  How is that possible? At this rate, I will never plow through all ...

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? Quilting Is The Best Therapy... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It has been quite a week, hasn't it?  Sometimes, though, I find that sewing can help smooth over the rough edges of tumultuous times.  So lots of sewing got done here at my house this week!  And finding the joy in small things is always good, so let's do a little whooping!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

This week I have been working on the prototype quilts for this year's tutorial series, String Therapy.  On Monday, I started a new quilt, dipping into my blue string bin (which ranneth over), and by the Wednesday morning it was almost finished.  As ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... But I'm In Therapy! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, I didn't make "scrappy sewing" one of my New Year's Resolutions, but maybe I should have - because I have FINALLY been doing some fun scrappy sewing!

I'm working on the quilts for this year's tutorial series, String Therapy, so I grabbed my blue drawer of strings and a stack of white 5" squares that have been in my scrap drawer F.O.R.E.V.E.R.

This is the block I chose to make.  It's from a tutorial by Christina Cameli and wow is it a quick and easy scrap buster ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... But I'm Working On It! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, it has been a heck of a week - I not only got last Monday's list all finished, but I had time to play with scraps!  And it felt so good...

I started out with a mess of 1.5" wide strings...

Sewed them together jelly roll style....

Cut that long strip into a bunch of squares and arranged them on the wall...

Wasn't so sure about that look (or size) so I bet you can guess what I did with them next....

And here's what's on my design wall now!  It's not ...

Make-A-List Monday - A Productive Week! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Wow, last week was very productive!  I guess I just need to know I have a very limited amount of time and lots to do to get motivated.  So without further ado, here's last week's list and what I did...

1.  Baste and quilt the special project quilt.
Done!  It's all ready to go, and I'll share more about this one after it is gifted.

2.  Make a back for the reindeer quilt.
Done!  And I managed to make it using fabrics I already had on hand - win/win!

3.  Make a back for ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... So Many Pretties!! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I haven't had much time for scrap sewing this week (although I have made a bunch of scraps to add to the stash!) but I did find some seriously great inspiration!  So I'll share that with you, and see if it inspires you as well...

How about this fabulous orphan block quilt?

And just think how many scraps this design would use up (and my blue scrap bin is overflowing...)

I love the simplicity of a two-color quilt, and this one is so pretty!

Honestly, I'm not sure whether I like the quilt top or ...

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? A Herd of Dinos, And Other Random Stuff from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's Friday again!!!  And October - can you believe it?  This year seems to have flown by, and my favorite season has arrived.  That's definitely whoop-worthy!  And since it's Friday, it's time for us to get our whoop-whoop on, so let's get started!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

This week I worked on Nathanael's annual quilt, and I'm pleased to introduce you to...

Trixie the Triceratops, and...

her brother, Toto the Triceratops!  These two rounded out the whole gang, and I was able to put  all the blocks up on the design wall to see how they ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Preparations, and a Quilt-y Need! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's been an interesting week already, but I'm happy to say that I have had time to play with my scraps!  I spent part of the day today repurposing some storage...

and sorting out some of my strings....

...in preparation for next January's tutorial series, which will be called String Therapy!  Many thanks to Chantal for the idea for the name, which seems perfect for us all right now.  I don't know about you, but I need a little therapy some days!

I still have lots of strings to sort into the storage, but ...
