What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

It's finally arrived - our last session of String Therapy.  I thought a good topic for today might be unity - how we can all get along even if we don't think or act exactly the same way.  Seems like we've lost a lot of that in the world today, but it doesn't mean we can't strive to get it back.  Wouldn't everyone be a lot happier if we were united?

Welcome to another session of String Therapy!  Today we're going to explore that most wonderful of things, your "happy place".  

For me, that is most often the beach.  I would rather be at the beach than almost anywhere, and it is our favorite choice for vacation.  Something about the sound of the waves, the warm sun, the laidback-ness of it all - if you ask my husband what time it is when we are at the beach, his response is always "I don't know, and I don't care!"

A few months ago, I saw a couple of quilts on Instagram that caught my eye, and I added them to my folder of possibles for String Therapy.  Both were similar in style, with one looking a little more contemporary as far as coloring.  

 

Welcome to this year's tutorial series, String Therapy!  I figure after the year we've had, a little therapy is in order - and what better way than with fabric?  If you're anything like me, you've got tons of string-y scraps - narrow pieces cut off from the edge of quilts, little bits left over after cutting pieces for quilt blocks - and if you're anything like me, you just can't bear to throw away fabric!  (Come on, I know I'm not alone in this!)  So let's take all those pieces, see if we ...

Monday? How did that happen?  Holiday weekends always mess with my timing, it seems - but that's really no excuse for my results this week.  I need to get back on track with following my list!

Friday has rolled around once again, and it's been another wild and turbulent week, hasn't it?  I don't know about you, but I've been indulging in "comfort sewing" as a way to cope with everything that's going on.  I hope, if you have, you will join in today's whoop whoop session so we can all boost each other up a little bit. That's important in times like these!  So let's get started...

As I told you, I've been indulging in comfort sewing. That's been a good thing, because ...

Well, strange times call for drastic actions - and I have been plowing through scraps like crazy!  Since last Wednesday, I completed the blue string top, which I named "Georgia on My Mind"...

...and today I finished all the pieces for this string top!  It is totally appalling to me that it only took the contents of one small tub of strings to make this quilt.  How is that possible? At this rate, I will never plow through all ...

It has been quite a week, hasn't it?  Sometimes, though, I find that sewing can help smooth over the rough edges of tumultuous times.  So lots of sewing got done here at my house this week!  And finding the joy in small things is always good, so let's do a little whooping!

Well, I didn't make "scrappy sewing" one of my New Year's Resolutions, but maybe I should have - because I have FINALLY been doing some fun scrappy sewing!

I'm working on the quilts for this year's tutorial series, String Therapy, so I grabbed my blue drawer of strings and a stack of white 5" squares that have been in my scrap drawer F.O.R.E.V.E.R.

Well, it has been a heck of a week - I not only got last Monday's list all finished, but I had time to play with scraps!  And it felt so good...
